UK road sign finial (or roundel) from a traditional countryside fingerpost in Headley, Hampshire

Authentic vintage UK road sign finial, or roundel, originating from a traditional countryside fingerpost in Headley. A distinctive piece of British roadside heritage, this original finial represents the classic cast iron fingerposts that once stood at rural junctions throughout the English countryside.

Traditionally mounted at the top of a directional fingerpost, the roundel served as both a decorative feature and an identifying element, becoming an iconic symbol of Britain’s historic road network. Years of exposure to the elements have created a beautifully weathered patina, enhancing the character and authenticity of this increasingly collectible piece.

Highly sought after by collectors of architectural salvage, automobilia, transport memorabilia, and country house antiques, this finial makes an eye-catching display piece for gardens, workshops, garages, pubs, and period interiors. Its provenance from Headley, Hampshire, adds further historical interest and a tangible connection to the area’s rural past.

Whether displayed as a standalone decorative object or incorporated into a collection of roadside artefacts, this finial offers a rare glimpse into Britain’s transport history and traditional countryside landscape.

A charming and characterful piece of British roadside history with authentic provenance, decorative appeal, and enduring collectability.
